Simon Porter is an award-winning composer for film and television, known for his evocative, genre-spanning scores. His work includes the Emmy-nominated natural history series Evolution Earth (PBS/Sky) for Passion Pictures, the Royal Television Society award-winning Drowning in Plastic (BBC) for RAW, and My Life: Taking My Shot (CBBC) for Format Factory.

In feature films, Simon has composed for projects ranging from the sci-fi comedy Time Travel is Dangerous, starring Johnny Vegas, Sophie Thompson, and Stephen Fry, to the psychological horror Inmate Zero and the contemporary Shakespeare adaptation Much Ado. His short film work includes Dope Fiend (Film4), the DIFF-nominated thriller 7 to 10, and Alien: Containment, created as part of the 40th-anniversary celebrations of Alien in collaboration with 20th Century Fox.

Beyond film and television, Simon’s commercial clients include global brands such as Prada, Booking.com, Dreams, and Betway. A lifelong student of rhythm and sound, he has spent over 30 years as a classically trained drummer and percussionist. His passion for ethnomusicology has led him to study traditional percussion techniques across the world, including in Cuba, Belize, Colombia, India, Panama, and Gambia.

He has been an inaugaral member of the BAFTA Connect talent development programme since 2022.

He was also one of the Pandemonium Drummers, who performed at the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games.
